This Hoisin Shrimp Fried Cauliflower Rice is not only crazy-delicious but super easy to make and gluten-free! Perfect for meal prep, too!
You guys. I'm so excited to share this one with you. This Hoisin Shrimp Cauliflower Fried Rice is super simple and quick to make but PACKED with flavor (and veggies!).
It's a sesame and garlic flavored cauliflower rice topped with my easy homemade hoisin sauce (or store-bought if you prefer ), some gorgeously glazed shrimp, sriracha mayo, cilantro (or nah, if you're one of those 😉 ), and sliced green onions.
SO. GOOD.
By the way, as a hot tip from me to you - before I decided to put this dish on the blog as a dinner, I'd actually been meal-prepping this as a breakfast for a really long time, and I highly recommend trying it that way, too. I just skip the shrimp and double up on the eggs!
Honestly, this would be amazing with almost any protein. You can even add in other veggies and really make it your own! I love that this one has a lot of room to wiggle.
Anyway, let's get to the Q&A and then I'll show you how easy it is to make!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can this cauliflower fried rice be made with a protein other than shrimp?
Absolutely! This would be delicious with:
- chicken
- scallops
- pork tenderloin
- eggs (just double the amount of eggs listed in the recipe, scrambling them all per the recipe - I do this all the time for breakfast!)
- tofu - I like to dice firm or extra-firm tofu, put it in a small bowl with a little soy sauce and heat it in the microwave until it's hot and then add it to this dish!
- flank steak
Can this be made ahead for meal prep?
Yes! I meal prep this all. the. time. Soooo good!
Can cooked cauliflower fried rice be frozen?
It can, but you'll lose a little texture on the reheat - meaning it can get softer, maybe even mushy.
In general, I wouldn't recommend it if you can help it.
Should I use fresh or frozen cauliflower rice?
Either will work fine, but I love the convenience of frozen cauli rice for this! Just make sure it doesn't have added salt (most of them don't, but every now and then I'll pick up a bag that does, so just check your ingredients).
Btw, no need to thaw frozen cauliflower rice for this, it goes right in the pan still frozen!
Is this Hoisin Shrimp Cauliflower Fried Rice healthy?
I usually try not to answer this question, because the term "healthy" is subjective, but I personally feel that this dish is pretty healthy! It does have a little added fat from the mayo/sesame oil, and a little added sugar from the sauce (though quite a bit less if you use my homemade GF hoisin sauce 😉 ), but it's also got a good serving of veggies, a serving of lean protein, and is pretty low in calories.
Not to mention that it's gluten-free, 21 Day Fix approved and Weight Watchers friendly (see the recipe card for counts and points)!
Can I use store-bought hoisin sauce and if so, what kind?
Yep! Even though I love my homemade hoisin, sometimes it's nice to have something ready to go when I'm really short on time. I recommend San-J Hoisin for this recipe if you choose to do use store-bought. I like that it doesn't have added oils/fat in it, it's gluten-free for my GF peeps, and it's tasty 🙂
I linked it here just so you can take a look at it, but I'm able to get it at my regular grocery store for almost half the price of what it is on Amazon (at least right now), just fyi.
Can this dish be made dairy-free?
Absolutely and you have a couple of options for this. You can either:
- Skip the sriracha mayo entirely and if you want the heat, just drizzle a little sriracha onto your dish.
- Substitute the Greek yogurt for a non-dairy variety such as plain Silk dairy-free yogurt (I would skip anything coconut milk based for this) and make sure the mayonnaise you're using is dairy-free (regular Hellman's is, just FYI!)
Can this be made without the cilantro?
Yes! For my cilantro-haters, I've made this a bunch of times without it when I've run out and it's still delish!
How to make Hoisin Shrimp Fried Cauliflower Rice
Whisk together your sriracha mayo ingredients, set aside in the fridge until you're ready to serve. *Hot tip: I love making extra of this to use throughout the week. It's great to keep on hand because it just has a way of making everything better.
Spray a large non-stick pan (this is a 12-inch pan) with olive oil cooking spray, heat to medium and cook the green onion whites until softened. Add your beaten eggs and scramble until cooked through.
Add your cauliflower rice to the pan, along with the seasonings and sesame oil.
Cook, stirring occasionally until heated through. Remove to a serving dish and cover to keep warm. Wipe out your pan with a paper towel.
Spray the same pan with olive oil cooking spray again and heat to medium. Add your seasoned shrimp in one layer if possible, and cook on one side until opaque. Flip your shrimp over, add ¼ cup of hoisin sauce and cook until the shrimp are cooked through and are nicely glazed.
Serve your cauliflower fried rice with a drizzle of hoisin, the glazed shrimp, the sriracha mayo, some chopped cilantro (if ya like) and the sliced green onion greens. Enjoy!

Hoisin Shrimp Cauliflower Fried Rice
This Hoisin Shrimp Cauliflower Fried Rice is healthy, quick and easy to make, so deliciously flavorful, and gluten-free!
Ingredients
Sriracha Mayo:
- 8 teaspoon mayonnaise (tested with Hellman's)
- 4 teaspoon plain 2% Greek yogurt (0% or 1% will also work)
- ½ teaspoon sriracha (or more, to taste!)
- 2 teaspoon plain unsweetened almond milk (cow's milk is also fine)
Cauliflower Fried Rice:
- 4-8 green onions, depending on size, thinly sliced, whites and greens separated (only the whites will be used here, the greens are for garnish)
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 4 cups frozen no-salt-added cauliflower rice (no need to thaw), you can also use fresh cauli rice, it'll just take a little longer to cook
- 2 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- black pepper, to taste
Hoisin Shrimp:
- 1 lb peeled and deveined shrimp, lightly seasoned with salt and pepper
- ¼ hoisin sauce
Toppings:
- 6 Tbs gluten-free hoisin sauce
- 4 Tbs sriracha mayo
- thinly sliced green onions (greens only)
Instructions
- Whisk together all of the sriracha mayo ingredients, cover and set aside in the fridge until ready to serve.
- Spray a large non-stick skillet (I used a 12") with olive oil cooking spray and heat to medium. Add the whites of the green onions to the skillet and sauté until softened.
- Next, add the beaten eggs to the pan and scramble until cooked through.
- Then stir in the cauliflower rice, seasonings, and the sesame oil and continue to cook, stirring occasionally until cooked through and hot. Put rice mixture in a serving bowl and cover to keep warm.
- Wipe out your pan with a paper towel, then spray it again with olive oil cooking spray, and heat to medium heat. Add the seasoned shrimp to the pan in one layer if possible. Once opaque on one side, flip the shrimp over, add ¼ cup of the hoisin sauce and continue cooking until the shrimp is cooked through and is nicely glazed.
- To serve: I like to build my bowl like this, but you do you 🙂
- 1 cup cauliflower fried rice mixture
- drizzle 1 ½ Tbs of hoisin sauce over the cauli rice
- ¼ of the shrimp (this should be about ¾ of a cup)
- 1 Tbs of the sriracha mayo drizzled over all
- sprinkle with the sliced green onion greens
Notes
*If you prefer to use a storebought hoisin sauce, I recommend San-J brand hoisin, it tastes good, doesn't have added oils like other brands and is gluten-free 🙂
21 Day Fix Counts per Serving: 1 Red, 1 Green, 2 ½ teaspoon (if you used my homemade hoisin sauce, you would also count 2 sweetener tsp; the amount will vary if using store-bought depending on brand - just know that every 4 grams of sugar is equal to 1 teaspoon of sugar)
